What is default language and unsupported language?

On Languages Setting, you will see Default Language tab, that is the language you set for your store on Shopify. Your visitors will see this language if their preferred language isn't available. Transcy will use this language as the first language to translate to other targeted languages. More details about target language, please click here.

In some cases, you might want to change your current store default language to another language.

Just simply go to Shopify admin --> Settings --> Languages --> the Store languages settings

Click on the button Change theme language --> Select the language you want to change to and click Save button.

Besides that, you might meet some special situations when changing Default language or Target language as below:

Language setting

1. Unsupported Default language

You see Default language noticed "Not supported" that means your default language is unsupported so some extended features are disable in our app

For example: Your default language is Sango that is NOT supported.

When you add or change default language to this language, you will see a notification on top of the app to notice that you already change to Sango as default language so you will not be able to add Sango as target language

In this case, you can do some actions normally including:

Add other target languages in Advance language. (within the limit of target language number in current plan)

Publish/Unpublish, Pin/Unpin, Enable/Disable Third-party app and Delete target language for Advance language

Switch from Advance language to Basic language and vice versa (within the limit of target language number in current plan)

Delete target languages in Basic language

But some extended features are disable in our app including:

Cannot add more target language in Basic language in this case.

Cannot publish Basic language

==> That means you can't use Basic language when your default language is unsupported.

2. Unsupported Target language

Example: You have Akan as unsupported target language in Advance language type

In case your default language is supported

You can publish/unpublish/pin/delete Akan target language, enable/disable Third-party app option and edit its translation manually in Manage Content section but cannot switch to Basic language

In case your default language is unsupported

You can publish/unpublish/pin/delete target language, enable/disable Third-party app option and edit its translation manually in Manage Content section but cannot switch to Basic language

Manage Content

1. Unsupported Default language & Supported Target language

Example: Your default language is Sango not supported and Spanish as supported Target language (Advance language)

You can translate content on this language manually by yourself in Manage Content --> choose the page that you want to add the translation manually --> Edit button --> Save

2. Supported Default language & Unsupported Target language

For example: Your default language is English and you have added Sango as an unsupported target language in Advance language

You can translate content on this language manually by yourself in Manage Content --> choose the page that you want to add the translation manually --> Edit button --> Save

3. Both Default language & Target language as Unsupported

You can translate content manually by yourself in Manage Content --> choose the page that you want to add the translation manually --> Edit button --> Save
